Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are produced by thin porcelain shells and they provide a cosmetic improvement to your smile. They are comfortably bonded to the front surface of the teeth to conceal any defects or undesirable features.

An alternative to crowns, veneers provide additional protection to the surface of the teeth from stains or damage. They are not permanent restorations, but can provide long-term benefits if you follow the correct post-treatment procedures.

Porcelain veneers correct problems such as:

•Crooked teeth.

•Misshapen teeth.

•Severely discolored or stained teeth.

•Excessively large or small teeth.

•Undesirable or uneven spaces

•Worn or chipped teeth.

A veneers treatment can be completed in two visits, with no anesthesia required. The teeth are prepared through buffing or sanding, this allows the veneers to bond more comfortably. An impression of your teeth is then created to determine the best spacing and position of the veneers.

During the second visit, the teeth will be rinsed with liquids that will aid the bonding process. The veneers are then coated with bonding cement and placed onto the front surface of the tooth. A special light beam is then concentrated on the bonding area to harden the material. After this process, you can enjoy a completely transformed smile!

Dr. Rodd is one of the most recognized providers of veneers treatments in the Dana Point area. If you desire a cosmetic improvement of your smile,

Composite Fillings

A composite filling repairs teeth that are experiencing decay, cracks, or fractures. The affected enamel is removed and then filled with a filling made of composite material.

Along with silver amalgam fillings, composite fillings are one of the most common restorations for cracked teeth. The composite ones are tooth-colored, which means they can closely match the appearance of the natural teeth. For aesthetic reasons, they are used to restore the front, or more visible teeth, in the mouth.

Composite fillings are not permanent, so they will have to be replaced eventually. Dr. Rodd is a specialist in dental fillings in the Dana Point area, he can provide additional information on maintaining your restoration.

Composite Fillings Address:

•Chipped teeth.

•Closing space between teeth.

•Cracked or broken teeth.

•Decayed teeth.

•Worn teeth.

Only a single appointment is required for the composite fillings to be placed. Before they are fitted, the space is cleaned and measured. If the decay occurred close to the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for additional protection. The filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished to provide your teeth with a natural restoration.

When your fillings are first placed, you may experience hot or cold sensations. This is normal and will subside after your tooth acclimates to the presence of the filling.

After the treatment, you will be provided with maintenance instructions to ensure your fillings provide beneficial results for as long as possible.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

A dental bridge can be an excellent way to replace missing teeth. There are several types of bridges, each with its own advantages. The traditional bridge is produced of porcelain fused to metal. These are popular because they are designed to resemble your natural teeth. This bridge consists of two crowns that are attached to artificial teeth and encase anchoring teeth. This fills the gap created by missing teeth.

Dental bridges are susceptible to wear, so it is important to keep them in optimal condition. A fixed bridge offers the following benefits:

•Fill space of missing teeth.

•Maintain facial shape.

•Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.

•Restore chewing and speaking ability.

•Restore your smile.

•Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.

Getting a bridge usually requires two or more visits. While the teeth are numb, the two anchoring teeth are prepared by removing a portion of enamel to allow for a crown. An impression of your teeth are then created, and sent to the laboratory for custom production. During this time, a temporary bridge is created and worn until the permanent restoration is ready.

At the second visit, your permanent bridge will be carefully examined, adjusted, and cemented to achieve a proper fit. Occasionally the bridge will only be temporarily cemented, this will allow teeth and tissue to adjust to the new bridge. The restoration will then be permanently cemented in a future visit.

Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will extend the life of the bridges. Dr. Rodd also offers a 5-year warranty for any damage to the bridges.

The fabrication of a crown requires several steps, and generally two dental visits. Your tooth is prepared by removing the outer portion to accommodate the space needed for the crown. After your tooth is prepared, an impression is taken to reproduce an exact model. This model and the impression are sent to the dental laboratory, where your crown is fabricated.

In our office, we make a temporary crown to cover your tooth while your permanent crown is made at the laboratory. When ready, we cement your new crown in place.

A crown covers a prepared tooth to restore it to its natural shape, size and function. It can strengthen a tooth that has had a large amount of dental decay and a large dental filling.

A crown may be needed in the following situations:

•After root canal therapy (endodontic treatment)

•To restore a fractured tooth

•To protect a weak tooth from breaking

•To restore a dental implant

•To cover a discolored or poorly shaped root

Dr. Rodd offers a 5-year warranty on crowns treatments.
